About Department

The Department of Political Science was established in 1987 as a teaching department of Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya, Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. Besides being engaged in teaching, research, innovations, and public services, the Department is committed to providing students with the best possible educational opportunities as well as developing a spirit of inculcating knowledge and intelligence and gain potentials to survive in this ever growing competitive world. Every year, 30 students at Master's level and 75 students at undergraduate level, and some PhD scholars through VRET and VRET exempted category take admission in the department. The primary goal of the department remains focused on developing an expertise in the field of political science by instilling solid skills in research and analytical reasoning among the students and research scholars. Our teaching programs, which are updated regularly, are structured to enhance creativity and exploration of new ideas. The students of the Department are to take part in Group discussions, paper presentations, Seminars, issue paper writing, article writing, and project writing. With a team of sincere and fully devoted teachers which includes permanent faculty of the university, senior visiting teachers from other institutes of repute and young visiting teachers, we earnestly try hard to meet the academic challengers of our times. We have been continuously collaborating in research activities with well known national and international organizations, notable among them are Centre for Studies of Developing Societies, New Delhi; University Grants Commission, New Delhi; and Association for Progressive Communication. Within the broader realm of Political Science, our recently concluded researches focused on Equity Dimension of ICT, E-Governance, Panchayati Raj, and Women's Studies. We have developed specialization in Gender Evaluation Methodologies and in conducting researches on rural population. We have been trying our best to provide policy inputs based on extensive research work to policy makers and to those who implement them. We have also been providing quality research inputs to civil society organizations and to the academia. Apart from teaching and researches the faculty members and the students of the department have been actively engaged in training, consultancy, extension activities, and extra-curricular activities. We welcome academic exchange, interaction and partnership with individuals and the institutions based on shared goals and common objectives.

Vision of the Department

Department of Political Science targets to achieve the following VISION in the forthcoming years;

1. Organise national and international seminars and workshops on contemporary national and international political issues

2. Conduct Refresher Courses in Political Science and also conduct Interdisciplinary courses

 3. Opening a Centre on Peace and Conflict Studies

4. Creating provisions for award of Master Degree in Public Administration

5. Creating provisions for award of Master Degree in Human Rights,

6. Propose a new course on Political Crises Management

7. Propose a SAF Centre on Chhattisgarh Politics in the Department

8. Propose online courses on core Political Science 9. Propose national and international collaboration for research, and academic activities
